Chestnut Hill Academy's
Rorer Center for Science and Technology Achieves
LEED Gold!

The
new 23,000 square foot Rorer Center for Science and Technology at
Chestnut Hill Academy is a vibrant learning center that serves as
a hands-on teaching tool for environmental responsibility. The high
performance building envelope features superior insulating value,
air and vapor barriers and double glazed low-e window units. The glass
lobby serves as a large scale vestibule and transition zone from the
outdoors. The HVAC system shares the boiler and chiller plant with
the adjacent campus buildings, and utilizes variable speed control
of pumps and air handling unit fans. To accommodate the point source
exhausts and fume hoods, the ventilation air and building pressurization
are carefully controlled to minimize energy consumption while maintaining
safe classroom laboratories. In addition, the photovoltaic panels,
wind turbine, rain water collection system, and real-time display
in the main lobby are some of the more visible elements of sustainability
incorporated into the project.
The
project has achieved a LEED NC Gold certification.
