Founded in 1893, Mercersburg Academy is a private, coed, college preparatory boarding school. Exciting improvements to its athletic facilities are now underway. BBA is part of the design team.
The two-part project consists of the addition of a 68,000 square foot field house and 38,000 square foot aquatic center, each connected to the existing Nolde Athletic Center. The field house will contain a 200-meter track, four basketball/tennis courts, and a concessions area. The aquatic center features a 50-meter x 25-yard pool, locker and team rooms, and associated support space.
Building systems design is focused on energy efficiency to support LEED certification goals. HVAC systems in both buildings will use campus sources for chilled and hot water. Air-handlers include energy recovery and demand-controlled ventilation. In addition to the highly efficient lighting and lighting controls, there will be a complete building automation system to monitor and control all equipment.
