Representing a partnership between Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the City of Philadelphia, the new facility occupies a prominent 1.9-acre site on south Broad Street. The Community Health and Literacy Center replaces and consolidates several existing neighborhood facilities under one roof. It offers clinical care, education and research, support, and recreational services to a diverse local population.
The building’s chief program elements are CHOP’s primary pediatric care center, the city’s health center serving all ages, the South Philadelphia branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia, the DiSilvestro Recreation Center, lobby and waiting areas, and covered employee parking.
BBA provided MEP engineering for the project, which is LEED Silver certified.
