Celebrating its 150th year, Delaware Historical Society is a statewide, non-profit organization that explores, preserves, shares, and promotes Delaware history, heritage and culture. It owns and operates several buildings, among them the Delaware History Museum and historic Old Town Hall, two parts of an ambitious renovation project.
In 1995, the society acquired a former Woolworth’s drugstore located next door to Old Town Hall to accommodate the growing collection. The Delaware History Museum now offers an improved visitor experience and accommodates a new program element: an African-American Heritage Center. The renovation features reconfigured exhibit space, gift shop and classrooms; new restrooms and elevator; and an improved collection storage area.
Completed enhancements include a two-story connector between the museum and Old Town Hall, the latter of which was renovated for use as exhibit and meeting space. BBA provided MEP engineering design for both phases of the project.
