The new Millbrook School residence hall for young women houses 44 boarding and up to 24 day students on two floors. Designed to encourage community and interaction, the Girls Residence Hall features a large double height lounge on the first floor that forms the heart of the girls’ social interaction.
In support of the school’s goal of attaining carbon neutrality by 2020, the building is designed to a LEED Gold standard and features a ground-coupled heat source system, passive house standards for insulation, recycled materials, bamboo floors, and local sourcing for brick and roofs. All lighting is LED and special attention was paid to providing dark sky night lighting. BBA provided engineering design for the project.
