Natural Lands Trust is the region’s largest land conservation organization. It owns and manages 40 nature preserves totaling more than 21,000 acres, and holds conservation easements and other restrictions on nearly 20,000 acres.
The Lenfest Center accommodates the trust’s conservation work at the 1,263-acre ChesLen Preserve. The center provides offices and maintenance facilities for the preserve’s staff, as well as gathering spaces for visitors, volunteers, and local community groups. The main building is situated on a hill, with offices, meeting rooms and support functions at grade; a four-bay heated maintenance garage below grade; and a mechanical mezzanine. The complex includes a storage building and an events pavilion.
BBA provided MEP engineering design for the award-winning project. Sustainable design elements include ground-coupled heat pumps, rain chains on the downspouts to aid in stormwater management, high-efficiency lighting, and recycled materials.
